GreenDot Diabetes

We are building the infrastructure for a new
generation of smart diabetes management apps

Who We Are

We are people with type 1 diabetes. Parents with type 1 kids. And doctors who care for them. Type 1 diabetes is a big weight in our lives.

What We Believe

We believe in a patient-first model of diabetes care.

We believe that technology can make a big difference in the lives of people with type 1 diabetes. We believe that new approaches to software design can create better outcomes, fewer complications, tighter controls, and at the end of the day, lighten the load on everyone with type 1 diabetes.

Right now there are a lot of people who think, "This is as good as it gets." We don't accept that. We are building technology that will help us and our doctors make better treatment decisions.

What We're Doing

We are here to bring the benefits of open source software to the closed, vertical and proprietary world of diabetes care. We are building an open software stack that will serve as the infrastructure for a new generation of smart diabetes management apps that help patients, parents, and doctors reduce the burden of Type 1 Diabetes.

We are organizing and curating these open development efforts. We're building both the platform and applications that use it. To encourage others to do the same, everything will be developed in the open and available freely to non-profits and non-profit researchers.

We believe this will do more than anything else to drive change in the slow-moving world of diabetes care. We cannot do it alone. We need your help to make this happen.

GreenDot Diabetes is a non-profit organization. Our 501c3 status is pending.

Developers: How you can help

Give yourself a chance to work on something that affects the world we live in instead of the world we shop in. If you think health care is seriously screwed up and that technology can help fix it, we have work for you to do. If you're about using modern full stack frameworks like Backbone, node.js, and D3—we've got some people who desperately need your help. If you want to work with people who've done big, disruptive things in Silicon Valley, that's who we are.

Our philosophy is simple. We like to work on big problems. We believe in open platforms and open development. We don't have all the answers. We are agile and iterate in the small. We do continuous deployment. We embrace test automation. If you want to work on a problem where getting it right is really important—don't be late to this party. We're starting now. You can serve in person, or keep your day job and help us with your code. Tell us your story.
